Glendale, AZ - Driver Killed in Tanker Truck Crash on Grand Ave

Glendale, AZ (July 12, 2025) – A collision involving a sedan and a tanker truck in Glendale ended in fatal injuries Friday morning, leaving one driver dead. The Glendale Police Department responded to the scene at around 9 a.m. on July 11 near Grand Avenue and Royal Palm Road, just north of Northern Avenue, after receiving reports of a serious crash.

According to investigators, a tanker truck was blocking three lanes of Grand Avenue while backing into a nearby business. Road cones had been placed around the area to guide traffic. For reasons still under investigation, a small sedan drove through the cones and crashed into the rear of the tractor pulling the tanker.

Bystanders rushed to help by breaking the windows of the sedan and pulling the driver out. They performed CPR until Peoria firefighters arrived and took over resuscitation efforts. Despite their attempts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the deceased driver has not yet been released, pending notification of family members. Grand Avenue remained closed for several hours following the incident while investigators documented the scene and crews worked to clear the wreckage. The roadway reopened shortly after 2 p.m.

Glendale Police continue to investigate what led to the fatal crash. No additional details have been shared at this time.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the driver who lost their life in this accident.

Truck Accidents in Arizona

Glendale, AZ - Driver Killed in Tanker Truck Crash on Grand AveTrucks play a vital role in Arizona’s economy, but accidents involving large commercial vehicles can result in devastating outcomes for drivers and their families. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, crashes involving tankers, semi-trucks, and other large vehicles are responsible for hundreds of injuries and fatalities each year. Residents can learn more about truck safety and highway conditions through Arizona state resources.

Understanding the factors that contribute to truck collisions can help prevent future tragedies. Here are some key points:

  • Visibility Issues: Large trucks like tankers have significant blind spots, which can make it difficult for truck drivers to see smaller vehicles. It’s crucial for all motorists to stay aware of these blind spots and avoid lingering in areas where they may not be visible to the truck operator.
  • Proper Traffic Control Measures: When trucks block lanes for loading or unloading, clear signage and proper placement of cones are essential to guide passing vehicles. Any misplacement or misunderstanding of these measures can lead to collisions. Drivers should remain alert and follow posted warnings in construction or loading areas.
  • Driver Distraction: Distracted driving remains a leading cause of rear-end collisions. Even a momentary lapse in attention can have severe consequences when approaching large, stationary vehicles. Staying focused and minimizing distractions behind the wheel can save lives.
  • Emergency Response: Quick action from bystanders and first responders can be the difference between life and death after a crash. CPR training and emergency preparedness play a vital role in assisting victims before paramedics arrive. Communities benefit when more people are prepared to respond during critical moments.
