Phoenix, AZ (October 2, 2025) – A deadly collision in west Phoenix on Tuesday, September 30, left one man dead and another person injured.
The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. near 87th Avenue, just south of Buckeye Road, close to Dos Rios Elementary School. Phoenix police reported that the wreck involved a pickup truck and a car. Fire crews rushed the truck’s driver, identified as 67-year-old Eric Wavomba, to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. Sadly, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
A passenger in the truck also suffered injuries. Police confirmed his wounds were not life-threatening.
Investigators believe the collision began when a car pulled out of a parking lot into the path of the southbound pickup. The force of impact pushed the truck into a tree, causing major damage. Aerial footage from the scene showed the white pickup with heavy damage on its driver’s side.
The driver of the car was not injured and remained at the scene. Authorities said impairment is not suspected, though charges may be considered as the investigation continues.
We extend our heartfelt wishes for recovery to those hurt in this tragic accident.
Car Accidents in Phoenix
Phoenix continues to face serious challenges with vehicle collisions, especially in busy areas where residential neighborhoods meet commercial zones. Crashes involving cars and trucks often have devastating outcomes, as seen in the recent west Phoenix accident. In this case, a driver lost his life after another vehicle pulled out in front of him, showing how a single misjudgment can have irreversible consequences.
Car accidents in Phoenix often occur at intersections, parking lot exits, and areas where heavy traffic mixes with pedestrians and cyclists. Collisions involving larger vehicles, such as pickup trucks, increase the risk of severe injury due to their size and weight. Even when drivers and passengers survive, injuries such as broken bones, head trauma, or internal damage can take months to recover from. Families may also face financial stress due to medical bills, lost income, and long-term care needs.
According to Arizona crash reports, thousands of people are injured in traffic accidents each year, and hundreds lose their lives. Many of these accidents result from driver error, such as failing to yield, speeding, or distracted driving. Others stem from vehicles entering or exiting driveways or parking lots, where visibility and timing are critical.
When a serious crash occurs, victims and their families often feel overwhelmed by insurance negotiations, medical expenses, and uncertainty about the future. This is where experienced legal guidance becomes essential. A Phoenix wrongful death lawyer can help by investigating the crash, gathering evidence, and identifying all possible sources of compensation. This may include medical costs, lost wages, pain and suffering, and, in fatal cases, wrongful death damages for surviving family members.
