Tucson, AZ (January 4, 2026) — A tragic crash at a busy Tucson intersection claimed the life of a young child on January 2. The collision occurred on the 5300 block of East Golf Links Road and involved three vehicles, according to Tucson Police.
Officers responded after reports of a multi-vehicle crash with serious injuries. When police arrived, they found extensive damage and multiple victims requiring urgent medical care.
Investigators said a 2007 Toyota Corolla traveled eastbound on Golf Links Road before abruptly crossing all three eastbound lanes. The vehicle then crossed the center median and entered westbound traffic.
The Corolla struck a Toyota Camry traveling westbound. A Volkswagen Jetta followed behind the Camry and could not avoid the collision. The chain reaction caused severe injuries across all vehicles.
Emergency responders transported the 27-year-old Corolla driver and her four children to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A four-year-old boy later died at the hospital. Police identified the children as two eight-year-old boys, a two-year-old boy, and the four-year-old victim.
The driver and passenger of the Toyota Camry also went to the hospital. Doctors later classified their injuries as serious but not life-threatening.
The Volkswagen Jetta driver sustained minor injuries and received hospital treatment. Authorities did not report additional passengers in that vehicle.
Investigators evaluated all three drivers for impairment. Police determined the Corolla driver was impaired at the time of the crash. The Camry and Jetta drivers showed no signs of impairment. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives finalize reports and review evidence.
We extend heartfelt condolences to the family grieving this devastating loss.
What to Do After a Fatal Car Accident in Arizona
When a car accident in Arizona results in a fatality, the first step is to ensure that law enforcement and emergency services are on-site to document the tragedy and secure the scene.
Under Arizona law, an official investigation is mandatory for fatal crashes, so it is vital to obtain the responding officer’s name and the accident report number for your future legal records.
In the wake of such a devastating loss, families should avoid providing recorded statements to insurance adjusters, as these companies often move quickly to minimize their financial liability.
Serious crashes continue to affect Arizona roadways, especially in high-traffic urban corridors. Roads like East Golf Links Road see frequent congestion, increasing collision risks.
Impaired driving remains a leading cause of fatal crashes statewide. Alcohol or drug impairment reduces reaction time, judgment, and vehicle control. These factors often result in catastrophic outcomes.
Multi-vehicle crashes create complex injury patterns. Secondary impacts can injure occupants who did nothing wrong. These collisions also complicate insurance and liability issues.
Families face overwhelming challenges after serious crashes. Medical bills and emotional trauma accumulate quickly. Many people often struggle to process their emotions and stress while managing financial difficulties.
Insurance companies may act swiftly following fatal crashes. Early settlement offers may undervalue long-term losses. Families should exercise caution before accepting any agreement.
Legal representation can help families seek accountability. An attorney can investigate impairment evidence, vehicle data, and safety violations. This process supports fair compensation claims.
Compensation claims may address medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more. While no claim restores a seriously altered life, it can provide stability.
