Mesa, AZ (December 14, 2025) — A devastating overnight crash on December 13 in Mesa left two people dead and eight others injured, including three police officers. The collision occurred just before 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Southern Avenue and Dobson Road.
Mesa police and emergency crews responded to reports of a serious multi-vehicle crash involving fire. When first responders arrived, they encountered one vehicle engulfed in flames and another overturned nearby. Officers immediately began rescue efforts despite dangerous conditions.
Investigators determined that a westbound vehicle was traveling at a high speed before the crash. That vehicle rear-ended a second car that was pulling out from a private driveway. The impact caused the second vehicle to ignite almost instantly.
The driver of the speeding vehicle suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 17-year-old passenger inside the second vehicle also died from injuries sustained during the crash. Authorities have not yet released the identities of either victim.
Five additional passengers from the second vehicle suffered minor injuries. Paramedics transported them to nearby hospitals for evaluation. All five were later released after receiving medical care.
Three police officers sustained minor injuries while rescuing occupants from the burning vehicle. Officers acted quickly to pull people from the fire before it spread further. All three officers have since been released from the hospital and continue recovering.
Officials closed the intersection for several hours while investigators documented evidence. Crews cleared debris and examined burn patterns. The roadway reopened shortly before 8 a.m.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families grieving this tragic loss.
Car Accidents in Mesa
Serious car accidents continue to impact Mesa residents, especially at busy intersections like Southern Avenue and Dobson Road. These corridors see heavy traffic throughout the day and night. High speeds and complex traffic movements increase collision risks.
Rear-end crashes often occur when drivers travel too fast for conditions. Speed reduces reaction time and limits the ability to stop safely. When high-speed impacts occur, injuries often become severe or fatal.
Fire-related crashes present additional dangers. Vehicle fires spread rapidly and leave occupants with little time to escape. Burns, smoke inhalation, and explosive hazards increase the risk for both victims and first responders.
Teen passengers face heightened risk during serious crashes. Young occupants often suffer severe injuries due to limited physical protection. Fatal outcomes create lasting emotional devastation for families and communities.
Victims who survive fiery crashes often face extensive recovery periods. Burns, fractures, and internal injuries may require surgeries and long-term rehabilitation. Emotional trauma frequently follows these violent events.
Families of crash victims often experience overwhelming stress. Medical expenses, funeral costs, and lost income place immediate financial pressure on households. Grief compounds these challenges and disrupts daily life.
Insurance companies move quickly after fatal crashes. Adjusters may contact victims or families while investigations remain incomplete. Early settlement offers may fail to reflect the true impact of injuries or loss.
