Phoenix, AZ (August 8, 2025) – Two people were hurt in a rollover accident on State Route 51 on Wednesday afternoon, August 6. The crash involved three vehicles and caused temporary lane closures.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), a vehicle with engine trouble was slowing to a stop when a pickup truck hit it from behind. This impact set off a chain reaction involving a third vehicle, a GMC Terrain. Witnesses reported the GMC Terrain overturned several times during the collision.

Two passengers inside the GMC Terrain sustained injuries. One person suffered life-threatening injuries, while the other had serious injuries. DPS spokesperson Bart Graves noted the situation could become fatal.

The crash briefly halted northbound traffic, causing backups that started to clear around 3:45 p.m. Authorities continue investigating the accident.

We wish a full and speedy recovery to everyone injured in this crash.

Rollover Accidents in Phoenix

Rollover crashes are among the most dangerous types of vehicle accidents in Phoenix and throughout Arizona. These accidents often lead to severe injuries or fatalities due to the violent nature of the vehicle flipping over multiple times.PFM149

Vehicles with a higher center of gravity, such as SUVs and trucks, are more prone to rollovers, especially when involved in sudden collisions or abrupt maneuvers. The GMC Terrain involved in this accident is an SUV, which aligns with the higher risk factors for rollovers.

Common causes of rollover crashes include speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, and mechanical failures. In this case, engine trouble contributed to the chain reaction crash. When a vehicle slows unexpectedly on a busy freeway, it can create dangerous conditions if drivers behind fail to react in time.

Victims of rollover accidents often face extensive medical treatment due to injuries like head trauma, broken bones, and internal damage. These injuries can lead to significant financial burdens from medical bills and lost income.

A Phoenix car accident lawyer can provide crucial support for those hurt in rollover accidents. Attorneys can help victims navigate complex insurance claims and fight against lowball settlement offers. They also gather evidence, such as crash reports and medical records, to build a strong case.
